Why Mercury Windows

Like the components of a time piece,  A window is a comprised of many parts all designed to work together in harmony. One of the most important elements of a window is its glazing system—a major component of the window's overall energy efficiency.

  • Windows with "clear" glass are the least efficient
  • Windows with Low-E are much more thermally effective. The better performing windows are those using Low-E glass with Argon gas. With this glazing, every Mercury Excelum vinyl window is ENERGY STAR qualified. Mercury uses state of the art glazing technology to help keep your energy costs down.

Superior Energy Efficiency Featuring Duralite™ Spacer System

Mercury Excelum windows proudly feature the Duralite™ Spacer Technology - a new level of thermal performance to windows reducing conductivity by up to 45%. This radical improvement in thermal properties is achieved by eliminating metal and replacing over 60% of the spacer profile with air. The patented design featuring a unique composite laminating technology without the use of metal results in superior thermal and durability performance.

Duralite™ spacers are more efficient because they contain no metal. This means that your windows will be warmer in the winter and cooler in the summer, making your home more comfortable year round. With a non-metal spacer, there is less temperature differential, so less condensation is created, which can reduce the risk of unhealthy and unsightly mold growth.

The Duralite spacer system can save you money. The energy efficiency of a window can be measured by the amount of heat conducted through its materials. Duralite spacers conduct less energy than any other insulating glass spacer, saving you more money on your energy bills.

Low-E

Low-emittance (Low-E) is a coating applied to the glass that increases a window or door's ability to diminish heat transfer, resulting in heating and cooling costs. In addition to energy savings, Low-E glass effectively reduces the amount of transmitted ultraviolet light which can damage carpets, fabrics, and drapes. Mercury Excelum uses Solarban® 60 Low-E Glass from PPG Industries.

Low-E/Argon Gas

We combine Duralite®, Low-E Glass and Argon gas between the glass (we offer double or triple glazed) for superior thermal efficiency.

Argon gas is much heavier than air, making it very difficult for warm or cold air to pass through. This glazing choice will meet or exceed most local building code requirements and provides ENERGY STAR® qualified performance.

Double Low-E/Argon

This superior glazing system utilizes Low-E coating on both pieces of glass for increased UV protection and additional heat transfer resistance. Argon gas between the glass makes warm or cold air pass through more difficult, resulting in energy savings.
